enriching lives in our community
As the neighborhood supermarket in hundreds of communities across North America, we have an obligation to serve in ways that extend beyond our core business. It requires that we remain alert and connected to those issues that touch and resonate most with our customers, including schools, health services (cancer, hunger and the needy) and people with disabilities. We have always taken this responsibility seriously. At Safeway, we take pride in our reputation for building strong relationships that have a positive and measurable impact on the lives of our customers and employees in the places they call home.
Cancer Research
The Safeway Foundation has raised more than $100 million for prostate and breast cancer causes. Through various initiatives, in partnership with leading medical centers, we are dedicated to raising funds toward critical research that is bringing medical science closer to a cure.
Supporting People with Disabilities
Safeway has long been engaged with regional and national programs focused on assisting people with disabilities.
Education…an ongoing priority
Last year we donated more than $22 million to local schools through eScrip. This program includes a $2.9 million donation through our annual 10% Back To School program
Locally Grown Produce
As our customers aspire to live healthier lives, the search for the highest quality product often begins in the communities where we do business. More than 30% of the produce sold annually by Safeway is sourced from local suppliers and growers. Sourcing locally creates several important benefits.
